Image, Accessibility, and Artificial Intelligence
Ana Batista Abstract
This project has the concept of the “invisible image” as a starting point and is looking to investigate possibilities to improve digital image descriptions and expand accessibility on the web through artificial intelligence technologies. This research explores three central pillars: image, accessibility, and artificial intelligence. The project starts studying image construction based on the senses. Then, analyze the web accessibility today over field researchers. Finally, it starts an investigation on artificial intelligence, raising points about image recognition and computer vision to realize how technology can help accessibility with the ultimate goal of making the web a more inclusive environment. This investigation results in an experimental digital project, Imagible, an application with the ability to describe images and pictures by text. In the end, this research and project result in a conclusive validation that Imagible can assist designers, content creators, and developers to write proper alternative text, and it also concludes that new technologies can benefit accessibility tools to build a more inclusive web. |
